When it comes to Linux clipboard managers few have the panache of Pano, a GNOME Shell extension I first wrote about last year.
Pano presents an interactive, easy-to-use dashboard in which to store, search, and organise your clipboard history, similar to the popular macOS app Paste (but arguably better since it’s free, open-source software).
And I’m pleased to report that this flashy productivity aid (which can be navigated entirely from the keyboard, if you prefer) now supports GNOME 45, meaning, hurrah, we can install and use Pano on Ubuntu 23.10.
Better yet, the add-on has added a few new features, like choosing where on screen it appears (top, left, right, or bottom), applying a wiggle animation to the panel icon when new content is copied to your clipboard, and options to change the fonts used throughout its UI.
Pano v22 changes at-a-glance:
- Support for GNOME 45
- Wiggle animation to indicator
- Font customisation
- Window position settings
- Icon-pack selection
These new features are in addition to the ones the extension already had, which range from adding apps to an exclusion list, changing the size of content previews, changing the keyboard shortcut used to toggle it, not showing a panel icon, and plenty more.
You can install Pano from the GNOME extensions website though (as you’re probably tired of hearing me say) the easiest way to install GNOME Shell extensions on Ubuntu is using the epic Extensions Manager desktop app, available in Ubuntu repos or from Flathub.
Do note that on Ubuntu you need to install libgda
and gsound
packages for Pano to work. If you don’t, it’ll just error out. To install these on Ubuntu just run sudo apt install gir1.2-gda-5.0 gir1.2-gsound-1.0
in a terminal app.
In summary, a perfect uplift for this engaging, modern clipboard manager.
